Our six-week series of adult ballet classes are all taught to live piano and are run by current and former dancers of The Australian Ballet. Classes range from Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.
Everyone is welcome, so no matter if you have two left feet or feel at home at the barre, we'll have you on your way to performing the perfect pirouette in no time.
Can't commit to a full series? Casual classes are released a week in advance so that you can try a class before you sign up. The first week of casual classes will be available for purchase from 29 March

Get familiar with the barre and progress slowly into exercises in the centre of the room, helping you to improve your posture, coordination and strength. This is class is easy to follow along for those with no prior experience.
• This class is for people who have never done ballet before, or people who have only attended a small number of classes before
• Ballet shoes are recommended
Now that your brain is full of ballet enchaînement, it’s time to work on technique. Intermediate classes will develop correct body alignment, while continuing to build on your strength and coordination.
Your form is focused. Your technique is tried and tested. Now you will be developing the musicality of your centre work, allowing you to develop the lyricism of your dancing.
All Studios ballet classes at The Australian Ballet are accompanied by live piano (the way it should be!).

AT HOME WITH STUDIOS
For a limited time only, you can learn the artistry and technique of ballet in your own home, anywhere in the world, with The Australian Ballet’s online adult ballet classes.
Our online classes are being re-released for just $16. Classes are refreshed weekly on Tuesdays at 4pm. Once purchased, you’ll be able to access the class as many times as you would like over 7 days - practice makes perfect!
Three levels are available; Beginner for those who want to learn the ballet basics, Intermediate with a focus on technique and Advanced for our experienced dancers.
Series 1 will be running six-weeks from week commencing 5 April – week concluding 10 May. Please note there will be no class on Monday 5 April due to the Easter Monday Public Holiday

Where are the classes?

Please arrive within 15 minutes before class begins to sign in. Due to current COVIDSafe requirements, we cannot admit any latecomers into class after the designated start time.
Access up to Level 5 will be open on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:15 – 7:00pm and on Saturdays will be open from 8:30 – 10:30am
What should I wear?
Feel free to wear whatever you desire! Just make sure you are in comfortable clothes that allow for ease of movement such as non-restrictive tights or leggings.
Soft ballet shoes are recommended for class. If you don’t have ballet shoes we recommend going barefoot as socks are strictly not permitted in the studio.
It is best to arrive ready for class as there are limited change room facilities available.
Please be aware that face masks should be worn whenever you cannot physically distance yourself from others.
What should I bring?
Water in a non-glass bottle and a towel is suggested to keep yourself well-hydrated and refreshed during class. It’s also recommended that you don’t eat in the 90 minutes before class.
Remember that face masks must be carried at all times as per government directive.
How do I sign-in?
Once you arrive at the Primrose Potter Australian Ballet Centre please check-in using the SinePro app on your personal smart device. Please refer to our Safety at the Studio page for further details on using the SinePro app.
Our friendly staff will also mark attendance as you enter the studio for class.
What if I am running late?
Please arrive on time as there is absolutely no late admittance. Due to COVIDSafe requirements there is a lockout once class has begun at its designated start time

COVID-Safety in our Studios

What if I am sick on the day of my Studios class?
If any of the following apply to you or any member of your booking party, you or they must not attend class.
- Required to self-isolate under laws aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19
- Diagnosed as having COVID-19
- Experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms as identified by the Department of Health - including but not limited to fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, shortness of breath, runny nose, or loss of taste or smell
- You or a member of your household has been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19
If these apply to you or any member of your booking party, please notify our customer experience team on 1300 369 741, available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (AEST).
If you will be missing a class for the above reasons, we are able to reschedule your missed class up until 5pm the business day before for Saturday classes and 2pm the day of for weekday classes, subject to availability within the same series as your booking. If rescheduling your class is not suitable or applicable you can keep the value of the missed class on account to use as a credit towards any future purchases made through The Australian Ballet. You can also donate the cost of your class to The Australian Ballet or request a refund.

All of our classes are subject to the COVID-19 Ticketing Policy in addition to the usual Step Inside Events Policy. By purchasing and participating in events and classes held at The Primrose Potter Australian Ballet Centre presented by The Australian Ballet, you agree to observe any COVID-19 restrictions or recommendations imposed by Government directives and within the venue’s COVIDSafe Policies.
Participants must be aged 18 and above to attend class.
As there are no payment facilities available on-site, all bookings must be completed online prior to participating in the class.
For security purposes and in case of an emergency, the names of individual event participants will be required for all classes. You may also be asked to provide additional details either at the time of booking or upon attending certain tours, classes and workshops including the participant’s address, date of birth and an emergency contact. The Australian Ballet reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of a participant’s registration, to refuse entry and to reject or disqualify a participant from participating in any classes.
Due to current COVIDSafe requirements, we cannot allow late admission to class after the class has started. Late arrival may be treated as a forfeiting of participation in the event – The Australian Ballet takes no responsibility for causes of delays or lateness beyond the control of the company.
Classes can be physically strenuous, and participation is voluntary, based on a participant’s own assessment of their fitness, health and understanding of the class requirements. It is the responsibility of the participant to follow instructions given by class teachers to maintain personal safety.
In the event a class needs to be cancelled, we will attempt to contact all who are booked in for that class prior to the start time where possible and all bookings for the cancelled class will be refunded.
We require a letter from your doctor to participate if you:
- are pregnant
- have a history of heart condition or stroke
- have a serious cardiovascular condition including hypertension, hypotension and heart failure
- are currently using diuretics, barbiturates or beta-blockers

At Home With Studios Online FAQs
What do I need for these classes?
You will need a barre for these classes however we know that you probably don’t have a ballet barre set up in your living room!
Instead, we suggest using a sturdy support such as a kitchen bench or the back of a chair or barstool that comes to about the height of your hips. If you find the chair or stool you’re using is too light to support you in these exercises, we recommend putting some heavy books on the seat of the chair to stabilise your support.
Where should I do class?
These classes are designed to be easy to be done in your home and in small spaces. Make sure you set up in an environment cleared for freedom of movement. We suggest having about 2 square metres clear to dance in. Please also take a moment to check that your floor is not too slippery.
Keep an eye out for small children and pets in your home!
What should I wear?
Feel free to wear whatever you desire! Just make sure you are in comfortable clothes that allow for ease of movement.
We recommend wearing soft dance shoes or ballet flats for these exercises. If you don’t have dance shoes or ballet flats suitable for class, we recommend going barefoot.
And remember to take regular breaks between the exercises to hydrate and to re-check your environment is safe from sharp, toe-stub-able objects or wandering children and pets.
How long is a class?
These classes are a full-length ballet class that run for approximately 60 minutes. Two thirds of the class exercises focus on barre-work with the last third of class focussing on centre-work suitable for doing ballet safely in smaller spaces.
How do I know which class will suit my ability?
As purchases for online classes are non-refundable and non-transferable, we encourage you to look at the sample classes online prior to purchase.
Do the class levels align with any ballet syllabus?
No, these Adult Ballet Classes are non-syllabus classes.
How can I watch the video?
Once you have purchased the class, a link to the video will appear in your account under “MY VIDEOS”. Select the class you wish to watch and you will be redirected to view it. You must be logged into this website to access your class after purchase.
How long do I have to watch the video?
You have seven days to watch the video from your time of purchase. Your video will expire at the same time it was purchased, 7 days later.
Is it possible to re-watch the video I’ve purchased?
Yes, re-watch as many times as you like within the seven days from the date of purchase to get the most out of your class. Practice makes perfect!
How often are new videos posted?
Videos for the Beginners Intermediate/ Advanced levels are refreshed with different classes once a week on a Tuesday at 4pm AEST. Check out the Schedule for more information on current and upcoming releases.
My video isn’t appearing in my account what should I do?
If you have double-checked you are logged into the same account used to purchase your class and still can’t see the link, please contact our Customer Experience Team as soon as possible, or seek assistance on our website’s live chat available from 9-5pm AEST. Please note that we cannot provide refunds for unwatched purchases for technical issues outside of The Australian Ballet’s control eg: slow internet connection.
Can I transfer my class purchase to someone else?
No. All access to our online classes is restricted to the account used for purchase. Sharing copyright material is prohibited by law.
Can I privately record the video to watch later?
No. The reproduction or redistribution of copyrighted material is illegal. Any persons uploading or sharing this material without express written permission is liable for copyright infringement.
At Home With Studios Online Terms and Conditions
All purchases of ‘At Home with Studios’ online classes are final, non-refundable and non-transferrable. We cannot provide refunds for unwatched purchases or for technical issues outside of The Australian Ballet’s control.
Unlimited access to a purchased online class will expire exactly 7 days from the time of purchase. We cannot provide extensions of expiry dates for these classes.
All ‘At Home with Studios’ online classes must accessed through the account used for purchase on The Australian Ballet website. Purchased classes will be listed in the associated account under “My Videos”.
‘At Home with Studios’ online classes are refreshed with a different class on Thursdays at 4:00PM AEST. The previous week will stop being available for purchase on Thursdays at 2:00PM AEST prior to the next release.
Participating in online classes can involve risk of personal injury and participation is voluntary, based on a participant’s own assessment of their fitness, health and understanding of the class requirements. As participation is conducted outside the controlled environment of our own studios, The Australian Ballet accepts no responsibility for injury or loss due to causes beyond the control of the company.
We strongly recommend that participants do not attempt an online class, or any part of a routine, that is beyond their level of ability.
Recording and unauthorised redistribution of footage of the online classes is strictly prohibited. Any persons uploading or sharing this material without express written permission from The Australian Ballet is liable for copyright infringement.
